Simply put, Wiring Diagram Color-Coding is a system using colors to identify and mark voltage conditions within a circuit.
What makes Wiring Diagram Color-Coding unique is that it takes into account the rules, basic building blocks, and fundamental patterns of DC electrical circuits/systems. The result is a powerful tool for teaching about electrical circuits, system strategies and even for “learning" itself.
The Color-Code Legend is the “home base” of Color-Coding. It is to circuits and wiring diagrams as Ohm’s law is to electricity. The Legend is comprised of the most fundamental circuit components, relationships and patterns that make up DC electrical circuits.
This poster set defines a color coding system that uses just five colors for five voltage conditions.
-Red is power all of the time
-Green is ground all of the time
-Orange is:
Switch open: Resisted path to ground
Switch complete: Direct path to power
-Yellow:
Switch open: Resisted path to power a.k.a “open circuit voltage”
Switch complete: Direct path to ground.
-Blue represents variable voltages.
